New Zealand's housing is one of the least energy efficient in the OECD and the benefits of improving this are significant. Energy efficient homes cost less to run, are warmer and healthier, and have less environmental impact.
Until now, energy efficiency has been something difficult to prioritise as it's not necessarily visible, let alone comparable or quantifiable. Home energy ratings provide homeowners with credible, comparable information about their homes plus a clear pathway for change through professional advice.
Home energy rating assessments help people to make better decisions about their homes:

The home energy rating scheme has been developed by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), in conjunction with the Department of Building and Housing and the Ministry for the Environment.
